Jamie Lee
Hi, I’m Jamie, the cofounder and Artistic Director at Actors Workshop. I head up a number of our stage courses and oversee the delivery of our extensive programme of workshops.
I also work as a freelance drama practitioner. I first started working with organisations including the Sherman Youth Theatre, The Gate Arts Centre and Llanover Hall, where I began working with young people to develop skills to become confident performers.
I’m currently the Youth Theatre Director and young people’s programme coordinator for the charity Arts in Rural Gloucestershire. There I’ve also been leading a ‘Young Promoters’ scheme for the county, providing young people with the opportunity to learn about the skills involved with arranging and hosting professional touring theatre productions in their community.
I also work as a freelance practitioner/director having guest directed for a number of companies and organisations such as Coleg Gwent, Lacey Theatre Company, The Academy of Musical
Theatre Wales and The South Wales Theatre Collective. As Artistic Director of Actors Workshop, I’ve directed productions including ‘Death and the Maiden’, ‘The Good Person of Szechwan’ (Funded by the Arts Council of Wales), ‘The Lady of Burma’ (commissioned by Julie Morgan MP on behalf of the Burma Campaign), ‘The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui’, ‘Entertaining Mister Sloane’, ‘Roberto Zucco’, ‘The Government Inspector’ and 'The Crucible'. I’ve also directed a number of musical theatre productions including ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Godspell’ along with classics such as ‘The King and I’ and ‘Calamity Jane’.
In 2008 I completed a PGCE at Cardiff University and worked as a guest lecturer for Swansea Metropolitan University. I also provide one to one training sessions for anyone interested in developing key skills including audition and presentation skills. To find out more and to book a session you can contact me directly.
In 2015 I co-directed a brand new play for the National Theatre Connections programme. 'Hood', by Katerine Chandler was perfomed on the main stage at the Sherman Theatre before touring to the National Theatre itself in London.
In 2017 I directed a new production of a solo show called 'PASSPAWT' which toured to Cheltenham, Cardiff and the Brighton Fringe Theatre Festival, receiving a 5 star review.
